Bailey Road Realignment - The Village At Lake Norman
Under the Town of Cornelius’s Centennial Transportation Plan, Bailey Road is to be realigned from the current 90-degree turn, “Dead Man’s Curve” as some call it, to a new intersection with US 21 south of the current intersection location in Oakhurst. With this realignment a majority of the traffic using the road will be diverted to the new alignment. With the realignment, those using the road should be limited to the residents in Oakhurst, those visiting the shops at Oakhurst (131 Main etc.), and the small percentage accessing south Washam Potts Road.

With the realignment, it is likely that the remaining section of Bailey Road through the neighborhood will be realigned to better reflect the neighborhood, maybe renamed Oakhurst Parkway. Furthermore, this realignment will allow residents to enjoy and utilize the street in a manner that was intended and not as a major thoroughfare.

A time frame on realignment has not been set, but all indications are that this will occur prior to full build-out of the Village at Lake Norman. The image above shows the proposed realignment, including both existing Bailey Road and its proposed realignment.
